How often to post?

Most small business owners too often ask, “How often should I be posting?” The answer isn’t as straightforward as you would like. “It depends” is often how I start my response, to which I get an eager look for a better answer.

There are many variables that need to be taken into consideration before that answer can be answered with some substance.

Too often I talk about understanding who your target market is and understanding their needs and wants. This now comes into play. The frequency to which you post depends on the age of your followers, their Facebook habits, interest and more.

The frequency then also becomes more prevalent when you look at the state of competition within the newsfeed. When your follower logs into Facebook, they are hit with an enormous amount of content. According to Facebook’s own research it’s 1,500 possible stories from friends and page likes per day.

So, does this mean you need to be posting more to get the reach you desire? Not necessarily and judging from the research I found conducted by Hubspot, the amount of followers you have can determine how many times you need to be posting.

Hubspot’s research shows that the more followers you have, the higher the interaction with each post you will receive. So, those pages with over 10,000 followers were the only ones getting increased clicks per post with an increased number of postings. Interestingly, if they posted more than 61 times per month the engagement in their posts decreased significantly from when they were posting 1-5 times per month.

Pages with 1-200 followers saw a small increase in clicks per post when they posted over 61 times per month. Their best results were when posting 1-5 posts per month.

The biggest thing to learn here is not to overwhelm your customers with content but be selective about what you are posting. Spend your time creating better posts as opposed to many.

After having said all that, I would like to suggest you trial, measure and tweak. There is no right answer as each business and followers are different. Use the information above as a guide and should you have any questions, you can always call us at Envious Solutions on 1300 467 489.
