Christmas is now only weeks away and I’m sure many of you are busily trying to tie up loose ends and finish off projects before the year is out. Personally, you are probably buying Christmas gifts and getting ready for all things Christmas with your family and loved ones.
It got me thinking about the simple act of gratitude and thanks. How often do you say thank you to your clients and suppliers? Maybe you send a hamper or gift at this time of year as your thanks for the relationship.
Nice, but I think it really can be a simpler thing to do and doesn’t have to cost you anything at all and should not be just saved for Christmas time.
I have this thing about saying thank you and showing appreciation. In business and life, its human nature that we want acknowledgement for the things we do. We have an innate desire to feel appreciated and valued by others.
Say It! – We can all start by a simple acknowledgement of thanks. I know I receive referrals from either previous clients or colleagues and a simple email saying thank you goes a long way.
Be spontaneous – I believe if we give thanks when its not expected, its all the more appreciated.
Don’t take people for granted – It’s easy to do. We all have colleagues, friends and family that do things for us regularly and we can easily take that for granted. Take stock of those people and acknowledge them for the things they do. Making them see what their actions mean to you will lift them too.
Keep a gratitude diary – We all have busy lives, something I have started to do each night is write down at least three things I’m grateful for that day. It will change your mindset and help you see things in a different light.
If you don’t already, I urge you to give it a go. Let me know how you go.
