As I’m writing the last blog of the year, I’ve been trying to think of something insightful to share with you around Facebook marketing, because if you have been following along, you would know that’s what I love to do. Share my knowledge with anyone willing to read/listen. It’s a little of my why. I love what I do and this year I’ve learnt my biggest love when it comes to marketing is teaching you how to utilise Facebook to grow your business. I love when students have their aha moments – that just lights me up.
Marketing is rather complex and aside from navigating Facebook advertising, there is so much more to it. The way our psyche works and how you can demand attention from people without being so showy and YELLING out at them.
I digress, this last blog of 2019 is not about marketing but about what I’ve learnt on my journey this year. Maybe you can relate or maybe it will help.
Truth Bombs
I learnt that even the most “put together” business owner is really just figuring things out. I don’t believe anyone knows it all. Yes, some more than others but in reality, we go about life and business and we are all just figuring it out as we go.
There is only one of YOU, and that is the only competition you will ever have. Stop worrying about what your competitors are doing. Yes, it is good to know what is going on around you, just don’t get too hung up on it. Be happy for their success, yours is coming.
Authenticity is key. When you put aside all the facades we all seem to have and strip down to the vulnerable you – more people can actually relate. When they relate, you connect, when you connect you build a relationship that can lead to so many other opportunities. Be open.
Believe, with your entire being. When you back yourself amazing things happen. I finally took the plunge to run my very own workshop, on my own. Guess what, I’ve been running one every month since…… and loving it!
Surround yourself with two kinds of people, those that are going through similar things as yourself – this way you can bounce things off each other and have yourself a support system. Find those that are a few steps ahead of where you want to be, you can learn a great deal from them and they help pull you up.
Get yourself an accountability partner. This is BIG! Without mine, I would never have finally launched my online course (that was sitting inside my head for at least 6 months prior). We keep in touch daily, yes DAILY. Share our to do list and make sure we get it all done. Yep ALL of it. No excuses.
Spend your first 90 minutes of your day doing the most mentally taxing tasks. For me, that is when I can best write creatives, when I can strategise and when the BIG ideas come. Turn off phones, emails and any other distractions. Do this and I promise you it will make a big difference not only to your day but to your business.
Everyone has a different idea of what success is, to be honest, I’m my worst critic. However, it’s important to take a look back at your achievements too. The last 12 months have had some ups and downs but I can say I’ve achieved and kicked some big goals. I have many, many more to hit but we need to celebrate what we have achieved. Be kind to yourself.
Live your life to the fullest. Sadly I lost a dear friend, taken way too soon. Stop sweating the small stuff. Make time for those that matter because you just don’t know when your time or theirs is up. Do what lights you up – even if others think is weird.
Cheers to 2019, celebrate your successes and learn from the whoopsies. I wholeheartedly wish you every success for 2020 and hope to meet you at some point, when the timing is right 😉
